Ek Anek Skit by NITK

In 2005, one team outperformed others in a skit competition. The event was Spandan’05 and the college was NITK Surathkal.

The idea was simple and yet brilliant. In early 90′s Doordarshan featured this “Ek-Anek” video to infuse the sense of Ekta(unity) among its viewership that comprised of almost whole India in those days. (Probably its needless to mention if you are an Indian). The skit team had to re-perform just that on stage without dialogues and that too very humorously(to survive from the Atyachaar hoot – ek do teen chaar band karo ye atyachaar yay its too much pressure on the kids.)

Nevertheless, they did more than that. Anoop Sharma (3rd year BTech) enters on the stage and jumps upwards here and there erratically as if plucking stars from a night sky. Then with an innocent face approaches a more innocent looking guy(who is doing his elder sister’s role) and says – “Ye anek kya hai didi?” To answer just that her sister explains the whole moral story. What followed is an awesome comic performance by my one senior batch. The show was an instant hit and the performance is still fresh in mind. This winner had everything – humor, drama, proper acting and subtle double meaning. The last one being the most important to survive as I mentioned.

Just to mention, best scenes of the play:

1. When one of the “chidiya” gets caught by the bird-catcher and flutters desperately to free himself.. hahaha .. real masala and fun.

2. The way didi distributes fruits to the children. See the video’s last 3 minutes.

3. How the little boy plucks fuits from trees in the middle portion. Another masala.

They say that there are no rules in friendship. Yeah right. And driven by this fact we go hurting sometimes. Well its better to say sorry to your friend at the right time in the right manner. This video will better explain this.
